Mark Blasius is a thoughtful and prolific political theorist who writes on matters of sexuality. This book's frequent invocations of Foucault, academic-jargony style, and sometimes difficult arguments make it perhaps best suited for the reading list of a graduate seminar. Blasius is persuasive, though, in advancing his interesting and worthwhile central thesis: that lesbian and gay existence should be conceived as an "ethos" - something at once more personal and more political than merely a sexual orientation, a lifestyle, or even a community.
